Making the Best of B&Bs

In the Cowichan Valley, there are generally two types of accommodation: chain motels (especially in Duncan, the biggest town in the area), and bed and breakfasts. If you’d rather stay in a place with personality, where you can mingle with locals and nosh on farm-fresh home-cooked meals, the B&Bs are likely what you’re looking for. There are dozens in the area, offering rooms in everything from farmhouses to heritage homes to brand-new villas. Many have ocean-, garden-, or vineyard-views. One of the best places to start your search for the B&B that’s best for you is through the Cowichan Bed & Breakfast Association, which lists some 17 properties on its website at www.southvanislebnb.com. You can find even more B&Bs (as well as those anonymous motels) through Tourism Cowichan (tel. 888/303-3337 or 250/746-4636; www.cvrd.bc.ca).
