Day trip from Bath to Cotswolds

by jeaniediane »

I am interested in finding the best way to explore the Cotswolds for one day via a tour or public transportation from Bath on 25 July 2014.  I am trying to avoid renting a car.  We want to end up that night at Stratford-upon-Avon. We would be grateful for any suggestions.

I was just thumbing through my newly arrived Rick STeves guide and he discusses such matters.

There are some very nice bus company day trips from Bath to several towns in the Cotswolds. My sister & I did one a few years ago & it was delightful.

Unfortunately, I don't think with just one day you can see much of the Cotswolds, with or without a car, particularly if you plan to leave from Bath and want to end in Stratford.  Most tours begin and end in the same town.  It's a lovely area but I suggest you just take the train to Stratford and visit the Cotswolds when you have more time.  Though I prefer public transport, I've found that a car is pretty much a necessity to do the area justice, or on foot.

The tour company in Bath that does a wonderful all day tour of the Cotswold is called Madmaxtours and the website is  www.madmaxtours.co.uk.    The vans hold about 15 people and the narration is exceptional. There is ample time in each village to stop and amble about and even have lunch on your own in one of the villages. Book early as they get sold out quickly.
