Choosing between Bermuda and St. Maarten/St. Martin

by aashmoi »

We are in the process of choosing an island destination for our much awaited honeymoon. We are planning on going for 4th of july weekend for 3 nights/4 days. However, we are facing a big dilemma choosing between Bermuda (I know it's not in the Caribbean but also a beautiful island) and St. Martin.  We are a young couple and are looking for a relaxing place but still with stuff to do. Some activities would be- beautiful beaches to lounge on, great bars/food/cuisine, lively nightlife and some water related activities such as snorkeling and maybe scuba diving (which we have done before).

It will be an added bonus if the place has some great architecture/history to explore. Any help choosing between these two islands would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Of those two, I'd choose Bermuda. Less overbuilt, more charm, more interesting culture. I don't know off-hand about the scuba diving there. For that, you might consider one of the Netherlands Antilles (perhaps Bonaire).

Many congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

Cordially,

Pauline

For future reference, Bermuda has some very good diving--lots of shipwrecks in the area.

For future travellers, the number of breathtaking beaches in Bermuda is overwhelming! The golf courses also attracts golf enthusiasts. There are travel sites that offers cruises packages to Bermuda islands last at least a week and the ports start from either New York or Boston.
