Veracruz excels in one category of shopping and no other. It has sublimely tacky souvenirs, which make perfect payback for coworkers who have burdened you with white elephants. On the malecón across from Café de la Parroquia, you'll find a long row of small souvenir shops that constitute Veracruz's version of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. Another place of interest (not so much for buying as for looking) is the city market at the corner of Madero and Cortez.
