The southern coast of Sicily has some fabulous sandy beaches, but its crowning glory is the spectacular ruins at the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, where you'll find one of the most memorable sites of the ancient world made up of eight temples. After all that sightseeing, drive 7km (4 1/2 miles south) and hop on the ferry to the remote Pelagie Islands, known for their unspoiled nature and exotic marine life. Lampedusa is the main island, and although part of Sicily, it is actually part of the African continent and has the feel of a North African land. Here, you can relax and dive in some of the best waters of the Mediterranean.
