If this restaurant were in my neighborhood, I’d eat here at least once a month, and I can’t say that about any other Upper East Side joint. The Foundry (and I have no idea why it has that name) reminds us that British food can be quite tasty and British people exceptionally cool (think David Bowie rather than David Blair). An extra-long bar greets diners as they enter, followed by a warren of little rooms filled with Brit-a-brac, and a sweet little garden. Sit at the bar so you can flirt with the David Beckham–handsome bartenders as you dine; they have a nice habit of complimenting those people who pick the most British of the selections (like the perfect steak and kidney pie, the crispy Scotch eggs, and kedgeree, a happy fried-bread dish with smoked haddock and saffron rice).
