This is one of the few remaining independent music venues left in the city, which means that if it doesn’t please the public with its choice of artists, its gone. No money is going to come raining in from the mothership. With that pressure, the bookers here have become expert at finding the next-big-thing, some of whom hone their chops at Rockwood, moving up from their no-cover-charge stage, to one of their other two more prestigious rooms. Note that on top of the entry cost, audience members are expected to buy two drinks it they’re seated, and one if they’re in the standing room area.
