The Rocky Road for Golfers -- Muskoka attracts golfers by the droves. Many of the region's resorts offer pro-designed courses, created by the likes of Nick Faldo, Mike Weir, and Mark O'Meara. The greens here truly are different. Muskoka is located on the Canadian Shield, a bedrock layer just a few feet below the surface, that makes an excellent setting for golfers. The landscape is rugged with natural rock outcroppings. Not only does the locale make for a stunning landscape, it heightens the challenge.

The Muskoka Tourism website (www.discovermuskoka.ca) has information about great local golf courses. Another good resource is www.teeingitup.com/ontario. You'll also find information on resort websites: Taboo has a course that's considered one of the best in Canada; the Delta Grandview has the first course designed by Mark O'Meara; and Deerhurst has two 18-hole courses, including the famous Deerhurst Highlands. Another big draw is the Rock (www.therockgolf.com), a course designed by Nick Faldo on the shores of Lake Rosseau.
