Here’s something you don’t see every day: a spiffy Ocean Drive spot to crash for $30 a night. On a second floor above a couple of shops and an ice cream counter (and right next door to well-known club Fat Tuesday), Michael Ohana recently gave his 132-bed hostel a zippy overhaul, providing the young and the restless a kick-butt front-row seat to all the action. Most equipped with triple bunk beds, rooms are all white, warmed up with spots of colorful art here and there, and blond wood furnishings a bit reminiscent of IKEA; you can choose either single-sex or co-ed quarters, and to ramp up the social factor even more, two-into-one dorms. Public spaces are appealing, including a bright, high-ceilinged lobby, a bar/lounge area on a 3,500-square-foot rooftop deck (along with Jacuzzi, pool table, ping pong, and big-screen TV), and a communal kitchen with brushed stainless steel appliances.
