Ensconsed in a graceful Art Deco building, a sleek dining room filled with soft light creates the perfect atmosphere for award-winning New American cuisine with a French twist and an occasional tinge of the Pacific Rim, such as duck with tamari-ginger sauce. The seasonal menu changes frequently, but signature dishes include braised beef short ribs and  osso bucco, which is all too rare in contemporary restaurants. The oven-fried chicken is exceptionally juicy. In addition to a comprehensive wine and beer list, including microbrews, the owner hosts wine dinners. I’d suggest planning ahead to take half your dinner home to leave room for one of the dizzying array of desserts. The signature chocolate soup is incredibly rich, but the cheesecake crepe with strawberries and the apple tart with crème fraîche icecream and caramel are equally tempting.
