This tiny Dutch-made design hotel, originally operated as Qbic, is a wacky antidote to other formula budget hotels. Everything you need—bed, outlets, bathroom with a rain shower, TV—is part of a prefabricated bed/bathroom structure that dominates the center of the room. The cheapest rooms, called “Snug,” don’t have a window—but you’re not in prison, we promise. “Comfy” adds a desk, “Plush” adds a sofa. Because those rooms can be less than £89 if you snag them first. It’s not a capsule hotel, just one that came up with a funky multipurpose bed unit: Your lamp is made out of petrified garden hose, your clothing rack a strange ladder/planter of some sort—it’s freaky fun, although it has been steadily aging since its 2013 debut. There are free coffee and tea machines on every floor and a preposterously arty lobby where organic continental breakfast is served. You’ll be within walking distance to Spitalfields/Shoreditch (15 min.) and the Tower of London (15 min.).
