120km (75 miles) SE of Ho Chi Minh City; 40km (25 miles) NE of Vung Tau
Just a short trip north along the coast from Vung Tau -- or a direct drive south (crossing some ferry points) from Saigon -- Lang Hai is a secluded getaway along a very dynamic piece of coastline. The fancy Lang Hai Beach Resort just opened here, and it might eventually rival the area's most comfortable getaway, Anoasis Resort. There are some day hikes and nearby temples, but Lang Hai is more or less a quiet beach getaway (unless, bless you, you're there on a convention). The nearby town is a Fellini-esque barren place, but the many kids flying massive kites of sharks and dragons make it a sight (and really Fellini-esque).
