The United States Army has set an opening date for its new museum honoring the oldest branch of the U.S. military.
The National Museum of the United States Army will begin welcoming visitors on June 4, 2020, according to a news release.
The glass-and-steel facility is currently under construction in a publicly accessible part of Virginia's Fort Belvoir, located about 30 miles south of Washington, D.C.
Privately funded by the nonprofit Army Historical Foundation, the museum intends to commemorate as well as educate. In addition to historical exhibits with artifacts, photos, and videos detailing nearly 250 years of combat, innovation, and service, there will be consoles telling the stories of individual soldiers (as at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus, Ohio, though that complex covers the entire armed forces rather than focusing on a single branch).
Contemplative spaces at the Army's museum will include memorial gardens and a large wall engraved with the names of each of the battles fought in the Army's history.

Admission to the museum will be free of charge, but you'll need to reserve a timed ticket in advance. You can't do that yet, but you can sign up for email updates to be notified when reservations open some time in early 2020.
